My husband and I figured out long ago that it was so much easier to NOT have the kids’ birthday parties at home. Between the food, the prep, and the mess, it just made more sense for us to host it elsewhere.
It’s always a challenge trying to find a creative new place to throw the kids’ birthday party, preferably one that doesn’t involve a hip-hop disco rat. So we were so excited when we stumbled upon Funtopia at The Glen in Glenview. On a random weekday, we popped in for a what we thought would be a quick hour or two of play. Upon entering I quickly realized it was going to turn into an all day event. Since the kids had such a great time, we decided this would be the perfect spot for Rhys’s 3rd birthday party.
The place is expansive, and filled from floor to ceiling with climbing walls whose designs look like they were right out of a children’s book. Twisting vines, leaning buildings, all with a characture-like quality that invites kids to play. Everything is padded and the main climbing area is surrounded by a suspended obstacle course for the bigger kids. Towards the back is the jungle gym and labyrinth cave, along with the baby play area. The kids are issued harnesses and a safety briefing before they were cut loose. There is plenty of staff supervising at all times which was reassuring. There is something for each age group which is great for parents with multiple kids.
Upstairs are the party rooms. Typical party fare was served but the pizza is actually pretty good. Our party liason was great and even packed everything up for us on our way out. It was a ton of fun and most of all, pretty stress free for the parents. Totally recommend this place if you want a party for both the kids and parents to enjoy!
