As a boy mom, it’s not every day I get to go shopping for girl stuff, so when I get the chance to take my niece Elia out for back to school shopping – I grab it by the horns and then we finish with what else, ice cream. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always loved this time of year and there’s something about getting your school shopping done early that always makes it feel like the school year is starting off on the right foot. We headed straight to Kohl’s, where you can get everything for you, your family and your home, all designed to fit your personality and budget – including all your back to school must-haves in one place.
Elia had a blast shopping with her super fun, super cool auntie (me!). We ditched the boys at home and upgraded her school wardrobe for the incoming year. When you’re a growing girl and trends change all the time, Kohl’s makes it super easy to send them back to school in style without breaking the bank. And you know us girls, our tastes change from week to week!
There are always the staple basics every teen girl needs, like denim jeans and hoodies, but I think it’s also important to get some fun, trendy items that give them something to look forward to. We discovered an awesome Juniors’ brand at Kohl’s called SO designed for girls ages 13 to 24. It’s SO fun and youthful – see what I did there? Here are a few cute SO shirts and jeans that we love for back to school!
SO Cropped Hoodie in Sugar Glitter Tie-Dye: Because tie-dye never goes out of style and is forever young. We also love this colorful graphic tie-dye side knot tank guaranteed to “bring on the sunshine” to school days.
SO Off Shoulder Smocked Plaid Midi Dress: Because girls don’t want to live in jeans every day! Try on this adorable smocked midi dress – perfect for study dates or shopping at the mall with your girlfriends.
SO Paperbag Waist Vintage-Style Mom Jeans: Take the mom trend back to school this year. Bonus: these paperbag waist jeans come with a cute bow belt.
SO High Rise Vintage Bermuda Shorts: These vintage Bermuda shorts definitely pass the “fingertip” rule for school-approved dress code.
SO Solid Zip Front Hoodie: Comes in many colors including one with a varsity stripe down the sleeves – great for battling the classroom tundra or for Friday night lights.
Back to school prep with Elia was so fun! I wanted to show her how planning your first day of school outfit (and styling it with fun accessories) can jumpstart the school year. And really, what’s better than a shopping spree followed up with a sweet treat with your cool aunt?
Don’t forget, the Kohl’s Back to School offer runs from 8/2-8/18 and can be used on all SO apparel – receive $10 off $50 BTS purchase! Run, don’t walk!
It’s that time of the year! I remember as a kid, it was one of my favorite time of the year. This year, I will have three kids in school! I’ll have a preschooler, a kindergartner, and a first grader. To be honest, I’m very sad they’re all going back to school. As much as they drive me mental daily, I love having the freedom to take them anywhere to explore.
We were able to take care of all their back to school shopping needs in one trip! So not kidding! From fall clothes (because it’ll be cold in just a few short Midwest weeks!) to shoes, we got it all covered. That’s the best part about Woodfield Mall. There are so many kids friendly stores to choose from. Have you shopped at Woodfield Mall lately? I got to check out their new food court. It’s about time! It’s been long overdue. It’s nice and bright with a nice selections of good eats. Are you planning on going to Woodfield Mall for your back to school shopping? What are your favorite stores?
Check out some of our favorite finds from last week’s shopping trip!
Just because the kids are shopping for back to school doesn’t mean this momma can’t! I couldn’t help it! After all, I’ll be doing three drops off at two different schools and three different time pick ups!
All these great finds were from H&M, Nordstrom, Zara, and Colombia Sportswear. Will you be doing your back to school shopping at Woodfield Mall this year?

Anyone else get Katy Perry stuck in their head when they think of California? The campy lyrics are on repeat in my head every time I think about my recent trip to California. Earlier this month I went to Los Angeles to shoot an Armenian wedding (my very first one!) and stayed in hip Santa Monica and Hollywood. Joining me on this West Coast adventure were all the flirty floral rompers and off-shoulder dresses I could dig up (scroll down to shop my looks)… you know, a girl’s gotta work on her suntan!
This is my third time in LA, but I still managed to check off something new on my bucket list – Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which is basically every fashion and lifestyle blogger’s dream to shoot at. Other memorable highlights of my trip included watching the new Wonder Woman movie at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, and strolling along Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach… also, couch-surfing a night at a stranger’s house when I was left without accommodations at the last minute… leave a comment here and I’ll tell you all about it 😉
Once upon a time I almost moved to Cali. Like, it didn’t work out one week before I was scheduled to leave, that’s how close I was to calling the Golden State home. I love, love, love it here so much, maybe I’ll get back here one day in the future… until then, I’ll just be California dreamin’ of a place where the grass is really greener…Thanks to my amazing photographer friend, Adrian, for these gorgeous photos!
Happy spring! If you’re an avid follower, then you know that I adore dresses and skirts. Anything flirty, feminine–and usually, the swingier the better. It’s been rainy and cold here in Chicago, but I finally caught a break to take a little twirl in this gorgeous blush pink Hayley tulle skirt courtesy of Bliss Tulle. Pair it with a romantic lace top (also from Bliss Tulle) and you’re all set for a daydream.
Just for fun, here’s a little-known fact about me: I always wanted to be a ballerina growing up. But that never happened, although I did become a competitive salsa dancer for a few years. I miss those dancing days SO MUCH!
I’ve worn several tulle skirts, but this Bliss Tulle skirt is hand constructed with the perfect amount of frothy layers… giving just the right “oomph” to your look. Stay tuned to see another pretty Bliss Tulle skirt which I packed to take with me to the tulip fields of Holland… and trust me that these skirts won’t fall flat and you’re guaranteed to feel like a dainty dancer. What do you think? Come take a twirl with me?
