Shopping for your child or your niece/nephew/friend’s kid used to mean a quick trip to the mall. Not anymore! Kids these days are way cooler than we used to be, and with e-commerce at our hands we now have one-click access to designs, brands and shops that are a lot more haute couture than Target (don’t get me wrong, I do love me some Tar-jay!).
Shopping for a high tops-obsessed tike? How about these cool kicks by Supra? Or perhaps you have a budding fashionista on your hands who would love a faux fur J. Crew coat? Got a little fella who would look dapper in a blazer? (I couldn’t resist buying this adorable Zara knit blazer for Roman to wear for our family photo shoot next week.) If you’re still on the hunt for that too-cool-for-school mini #ootd, then I have you covered. While they may be the cool kids, some of these have me wishing they came in my size!

I might or might not be doing a little late-night shopping, and feeling inspired to do a “What I Want to Wear Now” post. (Not literally right now, ‘cuz my jammies at 10pm are pretty comfy and all, you know?) These three looks are created around basics in one of my favorite color palettes – black and white – but of course, in signature Melissa Takes Fashion style, are served up with a dose of bright color or a glam statement piece!
I’m especially loving this striped faux fur coat, this two-toned leather bootie, and this leopard-printed haircalf clutch. I would wear any of these looks on date night, to Thanksgiving dinner, or a night out with the girls! Each piece is interchangeable between each look – so have fun and mix and match!
A rare girls night out but it was soooo much needed. We had so much fun and laughed till our bellies ached. Sometimes I get days where I feel like nothing I wear is right. I literally decided on this jumpsuit minutes before leaving the house and I’m so glad I did because I’ve been wanting to wear this for some time already but just kinda forgot about it. The faux suede material is sooooo comfortable and light. Shockingly, it also helped hide my pudge so huge bonus! A few of you had messaged me about these sandals from my last post so let’s also talk my platforms for a second! They are over 5 inches tall and they’re my most comfortable heel to date. I wear them to death and wanted to buy extra pairs as backup but unfortunately, it’s no longer available. I know, I know, I totally just teased you. Because the bottom is made of cork, it gives you that extra cushion so it feels like you’re walking on tall pillows. Lol. I swear!!
What I Wore-
Can you believe it’s already the second week of September? I don’t know if it’s because of having a new babe in the household, but this summer seemed to fly by extra fast. I’ve always loved dresses (see this post here), and this summer I’ve basically lived in one almost everyday. (Except for those times when I’m trying to keep you guys on your toes, like by wearing shorts or jeans!!)
Here I am wearing two of my favorite summer dresses, and then showing how they can be transitioned for fall. Before. After. Boom. Living in Chi-town, you can sure bet that I’m gonna stretch the life out of these summer babies for as long as I can! Here are five easy tips to take your summer dress (or any other summer favorite) into fall:
1. Add a layer. Jackets, vests, trenches, sweaters, and repeat.
2. Swap open toes for booties. When in doubt, add ankle booties. Bonus points if it has fringe!
3. Embrace denim. Tie that jean jacket around your waist! Drape it over the shoulder!
4. Reach for the summer dresses that have richer tones. I’m particularly lusting over wine, navy and hunter green this season. If you want to be non-traditional and wear your white dress after Labor Day, go for it – see tip 5!
5. Pair with cozy accessories and textures. Blanket scarves, anyone? All your whites will start looking fall appropriate if you pair with textures and accessories that sing of apple picking and pumpkin chai lattes.
Hope this inspires you to think outside the box and remix some of your old favorites in new ways!
