I call these my ‘lazy day’ winter boots. They’re super comfortable, plush and, best of all, WARM! My girlfriend and I had some downtime a few weekends ago so we headed to Cortland’s Garage for some yummy burgers. We had a couple hours to leave the kids at home (thank you, hubbies!) so I took advantage to wear this cozy look while we chowed down on decadently greasy bar food and then strolled it off around downtown. Who else loves a sleeveless sweater dress this season? I paired it with these tall suede boots from Payless ShoeSource, and its faux fur trim and lining kept my bare legs warm. I love the versatility of these boots – you can wear them folded down or unfolded as an over-the-knee boot as I have done here! Afterwards, I had date night planned with The Giant, so before I went to meet him, I slipped into these easy tassel pumps with the perfect heel height – a surefire way to dress up a cozy look and still be comfortable!
The boots are on sale under $35 and the pumps are just $18! Whether you’re running errands and shopping for the holidays, enjoying a night on the town or cozying up by the fireplace, Payless has you covered with a variety of on-trend styles that won’t break the bank. For more cozy styles, I also love these whiteout weather boots, these toggle closure boots, and these moccasin-inspired flats.

PSA: This isn’t going to be your usual blogger sweater weather post. You won’t see too many cable knits and turtlenecks around here on Melissa Takes Fashion, but keep up with me and there WILL be lots of color and unexpected silhouettes (like the ones above) this coming winter season. You will think this sounds crazy – since I live in the Chicago tundra – but I hardly wear sweaters in the winter. Is your mind blown? Anyone else bored by sweaters? I prefer to keep warm by layering cute outerwear like blazers (ironically, this is the most Googled fashion item by Illinois residents), and cozy accessories like blanket scarves.
When I do don a sweater, though, I have a few criteria.
1. Wear what I call a “statement sweater.” You know, sweaters that crop it like it’s hot, how hi-lo can you go, and those that are business in the front, party in the back.
2. It must be comfortable – not too thick, and definitely not itchy. Then have fun with layering!
3. Wear color. Reach for a sweater that is not black, white, blush, or gray.
4. Throw on a statement necklace to fancy it up.
Go ahead, make it loud, make it proud – and wear those statement sweaters like you mean it. Happy (make a statement) sweater weather!
